Compact Size, Streamlined Lower Unit and Electronic Throttle/Shift Control Highlight Suzuki's Breakthrough Innovation in 4-Stroke Performance

February 16, 2006

February 16, 2006 (MIAMI, FL) — Suzuki Marine raised the bar for 4-stroke outboard power and performance yet again today, unveiling to assembled marine press and boating enthusiasts the industry's first 300 horsepower V6 4-stroke motor.

A press conference/product launch this morning at the 2006 Miami International Boat Show was the first worldwide showing of Suzuki's new DF300, slated to join Suzuki's industry-leading roster of 4-stroke outboards later this year as a 2007 model. "This should leave no doubt about Suzuki's commitment to push the envelope in 4-stroke outboard power and performance, "Suzuki Marine Marketing Director Larry Vandiver said this morning to members of the media.

Offered in 25 and 30-inch shaft configurations with available counter rotation, the new DF300 will be an ideal choice for large center consoles, offshore tournament fishing boats, express cruisers, performance boats, power catamarans and more. The new, large displacement engine is based on a narrow, 55-degree block and uses Suzuki's proven offset driveshaft for a compact overall size that fits and balances better on the transom in single, double or triple installations.

This new engine shares key performance features with Suzuki's other popular and proven V6 models, including a Dual Overhead Cam (DOHC) powerhead with four valves per cylinder, Variable Valve Timing (VVT), multi-point electronic fuel injection, a durable, gear-driven timing chain and will have an Ultra Low Emissions 3-Star rating from the California Air Resources Board (CARB). Suzuki's new 300 horsepower 4-stroke also boasts several firsts for the company, including a newly designed, more aggressive lower unit to improve performance and top speed.

While this new lower unit is sleek and hydrodynamic, it still uses Suzuki's proven, two-stage gear reduction with the ability to swing larger, higher-pitch props for the ideal combination of acceleration and top-end speed.

The new DF300 is also the company's first outboard to feature an advanced electronic throttle/shift control developed to provide easier rigging, improved safety and easier vessel operation. This advanced new feature provides many performance advantages over traditional cable-driven systems, including smoother, more decisive shifting and quicker throttle response.

"We're very excited about this new motor—and not only because it catapults Suzuki to the top of the horsepower mountain for 4-stroke outboards," said Vandiver. "Time after time, our engineers have hit the bulls eye with new products that meet the demands of the market and exceed the expectations of boaters. The new DF300 continues this trend, setting a new benchmark in 4-stroke performance."

North American boating writers and editors are invited to experience for themselves the industry's first 300-horsepower V6 4-stroke May 8-10 at the exclusive Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo, Florida.
