Suzuki Marine Introduces 20-Inch Shaft Version Of Popular 200-HP V6 4-Stroke
January 28, 2010
With the introduction of Suzuki’s new DF200TL V6 4-stroke outboard, owners of pontoon boats will soon know what offshore fishermen and power boaters have known for years — when it comes to smooth, powerful and reliable 4-stroke propulsion, Suzuki outboards leave everything else in their wake.
The new DF200TL features a new 20-inch shaft design tailored for the transoms of the boating industry’s growing fleet of sport pontoons. These boats stay true to their family-fun heritage, yet they boast the hull performance and amenities to take on water sports activities like skiing, tubing and wakeboarding. And they’re also ready to wet a line whenever the fish are biting. This special breed of boat deserves an equally special outboard, precisely what
Suzuki engineers have delivered with the new DF200TL.
Suzuki’s new 200-horsepower V6 boasts the same design and performance features that have made this powerplant a leading choice for demanding blue water boaters. Suzuki’s narrow 55-degree V6 block and proven offset driveshaft combine to create an outboard that fits well and balances better on the transom of today’s pontoon boats. Additionally, this design lowers the motor’s center of gravity and reduces vibration for a more refined ride. With a whopping 3.6 liters of displacement, Suzuki’s DF200TL has the low-end torque and power to deliver exciting performance, even when loaded down with a family and all their gear.
Suzuki’s proven multi-point electronic fuel injection is controlled with a powerful 32-bit onboard computer, constantly monitoring a network of sensors. This computer instantly adjusts the EFI system for optimum performance based on manifold pressure, crankshaft position, intake air temperature, cylinder wall temperature, camshaft position and exhaust temperature. As a result, Suzuki’s DF200TL delivers optimum performance and fuel efficiency under all conditions, and qualifies to wear the California Air Resources Board (CARB) 3-star Ultra Low emissions sticker.
Suzuki’s new DF200TL also features a sturdy lower unit with an overall gear ratio of 2.29:1 (lowest of any motor in its class). This aggressive gearing allows the DF200TL to easily swing a 16-inch diameter, high-pitch propeller for a combination of low-end punch and top-end performance. Like all Suzuki V6 4-Strokes, the DF200TL features a high-output 54-amp alternator, providing plenty of juice for livewell pumps, air pumps, sound systems, marine electronics and a whole host of 12V accessories. Additionally, Suzuki’s direct ignition system — which uses an integral spark plug cap/ignition coil — provides optimum spark strength and timing while reducing electronic engine “noise” that can interfere with stereos and electronics.
